This workshop will explore Ashtanga yoga as what it initially was – an art of healing. The sessions will start with a talk about Ashtanga yoga’s history and background in the classical yoga scriptures, followed by asana practice of the Primary/First (and, if appropriate, the Intermediate/Second) Series, a little easy pranayama and meditation (dhyana).

The language is English. Translation into Slovene can be provided, if necessary.

Thomas is authorized to teach Ashtanga Yoga by Manju Pattabhi Jois. Manju is the eldest son of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois and the first teacher of Ashtanga Yoga trained by his father in Mysore from the age of seven. Thomas has also studied with many Western senior teachers of Ashtanga Yoga, including David Williams, the first Westerner to learn the entire system of asana and pranayama directly from Shri K. Pattabhi Jois in the 1970s. He has also completed several teacher trainings with Nancy Gilgoff and David Swenson. More information about Thomas can be found on his website www.ashtangamunich.com.
Thomas´ book “1 Percent Theory: An Attempt to Reconstruct the Forgotten Lessons of Ashtanga Yoga as Taught by Shri K. Pattabhi Jois” was published in June 2014.
